This is a List of homicides in 1991, including any homicides reported in the area during 1991.

Note that a "homicide" refers to the cause of death as determined by a medical examiner, not to the crime of murder as charged by prosecutors and determined by plea or trial.

Jefferson County

Adamsville

  1. October 20: James W. Adams, 54, was shot to death during an argument with a nephew. Perry Michael Peale was arrested and charged with murder. (report)

Bessemer

  1. March 19: Alando Stanford, 17, was shot to death during an altercation with a juvenile male accused of stabbing him. Stanford was due to testify at trial the following day. The juvenile was charged with murder.(report)
  2. April 8: Kennedy Nelson, 27, an assistant manager at Rent-A-Center was found dead and bound in a back room of the store after a robbery. His car was also stolen. No arrest. (report)
  3. April 16: Michael Hill, 21, was killed in a targeted assault while in his car at the intersection of 20th Street and 8th Avenue. Timothy Fuller was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  4. May 23: Prentice Lowe, , was struck and killed by a stray bullet fired from a car outside his brother's house on 6th Avenue North while he was asleep. No arrest. (report)
  5. June 3: Danny Lamar Butler, 29, was found dead alongside a gravel road on property owned by Koppers Industries. No arrest. (report)
  6. June 16: Alitha Acoff, 16, was shot by an acquaintance at 1116 28th Street North Bessemer. A juvenile suspect was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  7. July 4: Rodney L. Stanton, was stabbed to death during an argument about fireworks on Holbrook Terrace. Timothy Wayne Steele was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  8. July 25: Michael Dewayne Johnson, 29, was stabbed to death during an argument with his girlfriend. Phyllis D. Sanders was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  9. August 9: Carrie Jones, 25, was found beaten to death on the street. No arrest. (report)
  10. August 30: John Kevin Pierce, 31, was shot to death during an apparent argument with his wife in a motel room. Linda Gail Pierce was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  11. August 31: Julian Einstein Arnold, owner of Business Construction and Demolition, was shot to death outside his home on Royal Coach Circle. No arrest. (report)
  12. September 3: Frederick Todd Williams, 19, was found shot to death in the alley between 12th and 13th Streets. No arrest. (report)
  13. September 14: Earnestine Wade, 48, was shot to death at her home at 414 25th Street South. Josephine Gayle was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  14. September 19: Michael Christian, 33, was found shot to death on the 200 block of 19th Street South. No arrest. (report)
  15. November 11: Eddie Dewayne Smith, 31, was shot to death in his van during a robbery attempt. Two juvenile suspects were arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  16. November 23: Katherine J. Johnson, 63, was found strangled to death at her home at 825 24th Street North. No arrest. (report)

  1. February 8: Louis Steven Bush, 30, bled to death from a gunshot wound to the leg. Jeffrey Crim was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  2. December 6: Alonzia Winfield Jr, 23, was found shot to death in a presumed drug house on Short Main Street. No arrest. (report)

Fairfield

  1. September 15: Randy Hendrix, 30, was shot to death during an argument with his estranged wife. Vicky Kay Hendrix was arrested and charged with murder. (report)

Gardendale

  1. March 17: Brian Joseph Berenak, 23, was shot to death by his ex-wife's boyfriend while returning their son to her custody after visitation. Robert Pearson Woodward, the shooter, was found dead hours later from suicide. (report)

Homewood

  1. May 1: Garland Smith, 42, was shot to death and his date wounded by gunfire in the parking lot of the Pizza Hut restaurant at 14 Green Springs Highway. Ricardo Poole and William Arthur Barr were arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  2. September 15: Robert Alan Glasgow, 26, was run over by a teenager stealing his Jeep from the parking lot of the Valley Ridge Apartments. Willie Pope was arrested and charged with capital murder. (report)

Hoover

  1. February 7: Jerry Wayne Callahan, 71, owner of Riverchase Jewelers was shot to death in his apartment. It was soon determined that he had contracted for his murder himself, to avoid the "stigma" of suicide, and desired that no one be prosecuted for it. Robert P. Gospodareck and Gregory Brown were arrested and charged with capital murder. Both were convicted and sentenced to life in prison without parole. (report)
  2. March 30: Tezrex Robinson, a Fultondale High School basketball player, was shot to death while attempting to flee from assailants outside Sneakers nightclub. No arrest. (report)

Hueytown

  1. October 31: Anthony Stanley, 28, was shot to death during an argument. Curtis Eason was arrested and charged with murder. (report)

  1. May 28: Patrick Joel Humphries, 20, was found shot to death in the trunk of his car several days after being reported missing. Franklin Delane Simon, a childhood friend with whom he had recently argued about stereo equipment, was arrested and charged with murder.(report)

  1. January 19: Gary Warren Curtis, 37, was found dead near Turtle Creek. No arrest. (report)

Unincorporated Jefferson County

  1. January 15: The remains of Pamellia Higginbotham, 28, missing from her home in since December 16, were found near a dirt road between Trussville and Clay. Nancy Breckinridge, Benny Eugene Brasher and a minor were arrested in connection with her death. (report)
  2. February 7: Cedric Carrithers, 19, was found shot to death in his car on Mulga Loop Road near Docena. Edward Tarrant III was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  3. February 8: James Bartley Brown Sr, 39, was killed in a murder-suicide at his home near Adamsville. His son, James Jr, was found dead at the scene. (report)
  4. April 17: Jasper Willis Jackson, 52, was shot to death during an argument with his employer in Dolomite. Clarence Edward Rawlins was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  5. August 15: William Henry Miller, 32, was shot to death during an argument at his home at 6214 Luster Drive in the Virginia Mines community just outside Bessemer. Sylvia Deniece Rogers was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  6. August 17: Elijah Penn, 46, was found dead in his apartment at 285 Chickasaw Drive in Forestdale. His care was found two days later in North Birmingham. No arrest. (report)
  7. September 8: Charles Michael Redman, 38, was found stabbed to death in his burning truck in the New Village community following an apparent robbery. Larry Thomas Headley, Carol Ann Warren, Charles Linwood Robinson, and Kimberly Dawn Sims were arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  8. September 9: Geraldine Goodwin, 67, died at St Vincent's Hospital from head injuries suffered when she was knocked to the ground by a fleeing shoplifter. Frederick Calvin Williams was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  9. September 13: Kenneth Allison, 48, was shot to death while confronting a co-worker at his home in Lola City regarding a debt. Boyd Whitley was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  10. December 2: Sherry Goodwin, 26, was shot to death at her mother's house in Coalburg during a dispute between two families over a septic tank service truck. Roger Dale Madison was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  11. December 11: Elizabeth Leasor, 36, was shot to death at her home in the Ware Trailer Park off Pinson Valley Parkway. Her husband, Ronald Gay Leasor, was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  12. December 27: Harold Watkins Jr, 18, was shot to death during an argument with another man. Leon Perry was arrested and charged with murder. (report)

  1. March 30: Scott Wayne Woods, 20, was found dead off of Shelby County Road 13 near the Cahaba River. William Thomas Walters was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
