- 1938: Birmingham Commissioner of Public Safety Bull Connor and First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt stood off against each other during an integrated session of the 1938 Southern Conference for Human Welfare meeting at Municipal Auditorium.
- 1899: Birmingham's 1st Church of Christ Scientist was chartered.
