2007: George Bowman was appointed by Governor Bob Riley to fill the unexpired term of Jefferson County Commission member Larry Langford.
1998: Alabama won the last Iron Bowl to be played at Legion Field 31-17.
1975: The Smithsonian Institution sponsored performances of "The Music and Dance of the Age of Jefferson" at the BJCC Theater
1966: The Brother Bryan statue was relocated to Prayer Point at Vulcan Park.
1960: The first Jack's Hamburgers drive-in opened in Homewood and its "15-cent Jingle" debuted on local children's tv programs.
1939: Frances Moore began a 75+ year career at Bromberg's.
1938: Birmingham Commissioner of Public Safety Bull Connor and First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt stood off against each other during an integrated session of the 1938 Southern Conference for Human Welfare meeting at Municipal Auditorium.
