- 2015: Geneen Richard, a patient being transported from Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport to an area hospital, hijacked a Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service vehicle at gunpoint.
- 2007: Matt Murphy's radio program debuted at WAPI-AM.
- 2006: Sikes Shoe Company's Hoover location was closed.
- 1984: The Sheraton Perimeter Park South Hotel opened.
- 1956: Fred Shuttlesworth led hundreds of demonstrators onto Birmingham busses in defiance of local law. 22 were arrested and Shuttlesworth filed a federal lawsuit against the police.
- 1951: Bull Connor was arrested after being found in a hotel room with his secretary.
- 1940: Dedication ceremonies for Jefferson Hospital began.
- 1935: A Christmas tree started a fire that destroyed the Mercy Home Orphanage.
