1998: President Clinton viewed tornado damage in Oak Grove and held a press conference in Pratt City.

1975: John Ed Willoughby debuted on the radio, joining Tommy Charles on WSGN-AM.

1920: The International Association of Civitan Clubs was incorporated during a meeting at the Southern Club.
1920: The University of Alabama Board of Trustees voted to move the Medical College of Alabama from Mobile to Tuscaloosa.
