This is a List of Birmingham homicides in 2024. It includes homicide cases occurring within the city limits during the calendar year. Note that a "homicide" refers to the cause of death as determined by a medical examiner, not to the commission of the crime of murder as charged by police and prosecutors.

In 2 of those incidents an accomplice of the victim was charged with murder. 5 deaths resulted from crimes committed in previous years. With the exception of those cases, the Birmingham Police Department acknowledged 139 chargeable homicides in 2024. That number represented an 8.6% increase from the 128 chargeable homicides recorded in 2023.

Suspects have been identified in 97 cases, arrested in 96 and charged in 89. In 2 cases, the suspected shooter also died in the same incident. Another 2 charged suspects died before they were taken into custody. 2 of the 138 chargeable homicides were prosecuted as manslaughter. 1 charged suspect was acquitted at trial. At least 4 homicides took place during robberies, and 3 others took place during kidnappings. 28 appeared to be targeted assaults, 8 were apparent accidents associated with criminal recklessness, and 1 arose from neglect of a child. 51 resulted from arguments, 16 of which were domestic disputes, and 1 was an altercation with police. At least 5 victims are believed to have been struck by stray bullets. The motives for 60 other homicides have not been reported.

137 victims were male and 23 were female. In 2024 the incidence of homicides in the city's East Precinct rose by 40% to 45 deaths, while the West Precinct saw a 14% decline tp 44. The North Precinct was the scene of 30 homicides, and the South Precinct experienced 18. On March 24 the Mothers United Against Gun Violence joined with the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention, the NAACP, Black Lives Matter and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference to host an anti-gun violence rally at First Baptist Church of Ensley.

Mothers United also hosted a memorial service on April 27, during National Crime Victims' Rights Week, and an awareness event on June 1 at Kelly Ingram Park.

The City of Birmingham launched a pilot of "Project Safe Streets" to reduce the number of entrances and exits to residential neighborhoods, approved a "Citizens Observer Patrol", and established an $80,000 reward fund for information leading to arrests in cases where shooting victims are minors. Mayor Randall Woodfin appealed to the public to de-escalate violence and break the cycle of retaliation and promised to "turn up the heat" on enforcement of infractions seen as precursors or contributors to violence.

Woodfin also called on the public to help investigators close cases by contacting police or providing anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama. In August the Birmingham Police Department was able to welcome an "outpouring of assistance," enabling them to make arrests and close cases that otherwise could not have been solved.

Woodfin gave a 35-minute speech from the Birmingham Real Time Crime Center, flanked by scores of guns from the police evidence room, promising that 2025 would see less deadly violence than 2024, because the whole city would work together on the problem with the city's support.
