This is a List of Birmingham homicides in 1991. It includes homicide cases occuring within the city limits during the calendar year. Note that not all homicides are ultimately ruled to be murder in courts of law.

1991 saw 131 homicides reported in Birmingham. Based on the 1990 census count of 265,968 residents, the homicide rate for the city was 49.2 homicides per 100,000 population for the year.

  1. January 4: Boise Perkins, 76, died at Carraway Methodist Medical Center from gunshot wounds suffered on October 23, 1990 during a fight with his son at his home. No criminal charges were filed. (report)
  2. January 5: Tamiko Jones, 20, was shot to death in an argument over a bottle of gin. Another man was seriously injured. Steven Parker pleaded guilty to manslaughter and assault. He was given a suspended sentence with 5 years on probation. (report)
  3. January 8: Eddie Waters, 64, was shot to death on the 1600 block of 18th Place North in Fountain Heights. Ricky Lee Kennedy was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  4. January 16: Bill Saxton, 24, was one of two people shot to death in the living room of their home at 1613 32nd Avenue North in Acipco-Finley. Jerry Lashen Falconer was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  5. January 16: Janice Wages, 29, was killed in the same incident.
  6. January 18: Brenda Prince, 26, was stabbed to death at her home at 1201 McMillon Avenue Southwest in Arlington-West End. No arrest. (report)
  7. January 22: Arthur Anderson, 29, was shot to death on the 4600 block of Roscoe Avenue in Kingston. Two men were arrested but the charges against them were dismissed. (report)
  8. February 1: Earnest Lee Reese, 23, was shot to death on the 1700 block of 33rd Street North in [[]]. Tito Carroll was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  9. February 3: Terry Griffin, 29, was shot to death in his car on the 1300 block of Princeton Avenue Southwest in Arlington-West End. No arrest. (report)
  10. February 5: Alexander Holt, 24, was shot to death during an argument on the 100 block of 4th Court West in the Elyton Village public housing community in Graymont. Rodney Averhart was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison. (report)
  11. February 8: Donald Ray Townsend, 37, died at University Hospital from injuries suffered the day before in a fight on the block of Dugan Avenue in North Pratt. No arrest. (report)
  12. February 10: Ryan Moultrie was found shot to death just outside his car in a parking lot on the 1000 block of Hilltop Terrace. No arrest. (report)
  13. February 17: Roderick Presswood, 24, was found shot to death on the sidewalk following an argument on the 300 block of 3rd Street West in Graymont. Andrew Carrington was convicted of murder and sentenced to 30 years in prison. (report)
  14. February 21: David L. Isbell, 42, was shot to death in an alley near the 3200 block of Hazel Avenue Southwest in Riley-Travellick. Henry Lee Toney was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  15. February 22: Alvin Purifoy, 18, was shot to death as he stepped out of convenience store in Woodlawn. James C. Ballard was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  16. February 24: Cheryl Lynn Parker, 22, was shot to death on the 1600 block of Mims Avenue Southwest in West End Manor. London England Dandridge and John Henry Melton were convicted of murder, with Melton being sentenced to 25 years in prison. (report)
  17. February 26: Darryl Eugene Ray, 26, was found dead beside a picnic table at Pratt City Park. He had been seen being forcibly abducted from a parking lot on the 4800 block of Avenue W Ensley in Central Park the previous night. Tameca Cole was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  18. February 28: Ben Jessie, 20, was shot to death by an acquaintance at 1420 Tuscaloosa Avenue Southwest in Arlington-West End. Gail Parham was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  19. March 8: Bridgette Dowdell, 24, was found dead on the 3900 block of 16th Court North in Norwood. No arrest. (report)
  20. March 9: Darryl Wayne Langham was found dead by two people riding horseback in the vicinity of Powderly. Dwight David Marshall was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  21. March 11: Carlton Brown, 39, was beaten and stabbed to death by a group of assailants on the 3000 block of 28th Avenue North in Collegeville. Monzette Gordon pleaded guilty to manslaughter. (report)
  22. March 12: Brian Antonio Woods, 18, was killed by a shotgun blast outside a home on South Park Road Southwest. Arthur Holt and Edward Cole were charged with murder. Holt was convicted at trial. (report)
  23. March 13: Willis Yarbrough, 44, was fatally injured during a struggle over a gun in North Birmingham. No criminal charges were filed. (report)
  24. March 14: Milous Owens, 44, died from stab wounds suffered in an argument over a card game in Fountain Heights. No criminal charges were filed. (report)
  25. March 25: Randolph Golden, 16, was shot and killed by a woman who claimed he was trespassing and bothering her. No criminal charges were filed. (report)
  26. March 26: Carlos Jose Wilson, 18, was killed, and another man injured, in a shooting in Brighton. Virgil Bowers Jr was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  27. March 29: Rodney Smith, 26, was shot to death in an alley near the 200 block of 16th Place Southwest in Oakwood Place. No arrest.(report)
  28. March 30: Tim DeWayne Littleton, 18, was killed in a drive-by shooting on the 900 block of Pearson Avenue Southwest in Arlington-West End. No arrest. (report)
  29. April 1: James Leonard Reed, 20, was shot to death during an argument on the 400 block of 2nd Street West in the Elyton Village public housing community in Graymont. Philemon Coleman was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  30. April 4: Rodrick Kenebrew, 31, was shot to death while allegedly attempting to break into an apartment in Kingston. No criminal charges were filed. (report)
  31. April 4: Albert Hatcher, 24, was shot to death during a fight in Kingston. Frederick Bass was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  32. April 6: Lakeeita Merritt, 30, was fatally wounded by a gunshot to the chest at a motel on the 1100 block of 6th Avenue South in Five Points South. An 18-year-old suspect was taken into custody. (report)
  33. April 6: Horace Robinson, 27, was shot to death while sitting on the porch of his apartment at 101 Wilson Court Way in the Loveman Village public housing community in North Titusville. Roy Lonza Cobb was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  34. April 11: Darryl Hollis, 23, was killed while using a pay phone outside a gas station on the 8300 block of 1st Avenue North in North East Lake. A 24-year-old suspect was taken into custody. (report)
  35. April 11: Anthony Brown, 27, was killed by stray gunshots from a nearby robbery while sitting on his porch on the 3400 block of 30th Way North in the Collegeville Center public housing community. Three people were arrested. (report)
  36. April 12: David Glover Barnes, 37, was killed by a gunshot wound suffered during a domestic dispute with his girlfriend. No criminal charges were filed. (report)
  37. April 19: Jimmy Taylor, 22, was killed in a drive-by shooting near the intersection of 8th Avenue North and Center Street North in Smithfield. A juvenile suspect was charged, but was acquitted at trial. (report)
  38. April 21: Donald Howell, 20, was shot to death while sitting in a car on the 200 block of 2nd Avenue Southwest in the Loveman Village public housing community in North Titusville. A 17-year-old suspect was arrested and charged. (report)
  39. April 26: Antonio Rogers, 18, died from stab wounds suffered in a robbery at 26th Street North and 35th Avenue North in North Birmingham. Clinton Jones was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  40. April 28: Steve Sears, 43, was shot to death in his apartment on the 1500 block of 8th Avenue North in Fountain Heights. No arrest. (report)
  41. May 1: Bridgette Farley, 20, was shot to death by her estranged husband, Tyrone Farley, in the parking lot of Golden Flake on the 100 block of 6th Street South in South Titusville. He also shot himself in the stomach, but survived.(report)
  42. May 1: Charles Byron Hedrick, 36, was shot to death in L C's Market at 836 15th Street North in Fountain Heights. William O'Bryan Collins was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  43. May 3: Louis "Red" Oliver, 43, was killed in a drive-by shooting at 19th Street and 14th Avenue North in Fountain Heights. Eddie Williams was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  44. May 4: Lester Wilson, 26, was stabbed to death at his home on the 1200 block of 4th Terrace West in Bush Hills. A juvenile suspect was arrested and charged. (report)
  45. May 4: Wesley Rennard Lewis, 35, was shot to death on the 9900 block of Parkway East in Spring Lake. Bobby Joe McKay was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  46. May 5: Haston Brummitt, 80, was found dead from apparent homicide at his home on the 7500 block of Oporto-Madrid Boulevard in Brown Springs. (report)
  47. May 7: Mark Lloyd Washington, 23, was shot to death during an argument in a parking lot on the 200 block of 12th Street West in Rising-West Princeton. Willie Mack was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  48. May 8: Roger Lee Connor, 45, was shot to death at a house on the 1100 block of 15th Street Southwest. Another woman was injured by gunshot. Brenda Chambers was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  49. May 17: Jeffrey Peterson, 3, was killed by a stray bullet fired during an argument at the Forest Hill Village apartments in Southwest Birmingham. His 8-year-old cousin was also wounded. Grant Mumford and Marlon Collins were arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  50. May 20: Terrence McCary, 20, was found dead on the street in Smithfield from numerous gunshot wounds. No arrest. (report)
  51. May 21: James Jones, 20, was found shot to death on the 1100 block of 22nd Street Ensley. Robert Lee Bell was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  52. May 29: Connie Forrest, 34, was beaten to death at her home on the 1700 block of 26th Court North in Acipco-Finley. Her boyfriend, Mack Davis, was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  53. May 30: Diana Murphy, 30, was found dead in an apartment on the 1400 block of 20th Place Ensley where she had been chased by three men. A juvenile suspect was arrested and charged. (report)
  54. May 31: William Johnson, 23, was shot to death in an alley on the 200 block of 5th Avenue North. Jerry Oden was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  55. June 2: Carlston McGraw, 20, was shot to death during a confrontation of the 500 block of 41st Street North in North Avondale. Witnesses reported McGraw was assaulted but refused to fight back. Lamar Russell was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  56. June 4: Willie James Weaver, 70, was stabbed to death at his home on the 1600 block of 18th Street Ensley during an apparent robbery. Cora Armstrong, Carolyn Denise Sloan and a minor were arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  57. June 9: Anthony Earl Williams, 39, was found shot to death on the 1000 block of 18th Street South in Five Points South. No arrest. (report)
  58. June 11: Lamar Zeigler, 24, was shot to death in the back yard of a house on the 1600 block of 11th Avenue North in Fountain Heights. Carmice Hill was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  59. June 21: Arthur Lee Smith Jr, 23, was found shot to death in an abandoned house at the corner of Carver Avenue Southwest and 33rd Street Southwest in Tarpley City. Dequarious Motley was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  60. June 22: David Michael Thomas, 31, was found stabbed to death in Greenwood Cemetery in Woodlawn. Jamey Leath Pearce and Timothy Garrard were arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  61. June 24: Merdis Williams, 61, was found strangled to death in her home at 108 2nd Street North in Smithfield. Her former boyfriend, Russell Beverly, was arrested at the scene and charged with murder. (report)
  62. June 25: Maurice Daniel, 34, was strangled to death at his home at 209-A 8th Avenue North in Smithfield. No arrest. (report)
  63. June 29: Ricardo Rather Jr, 14, was shot to death in an argument on the 2200 block of Avenue G Ensley in Ensley. Sheldon Jones was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  64. July 1: Patrick Brackens, 16, was shot to death during a robbery on the 4500 block of 9th Avenue North in the Rev. Dr Morrell Todd Homes public housing community in Kingston.
  65. July 2: Antonio DeWayne Hendricks, 19, was shot to death outside an apartment on 2nd Court North following a drug-related robbery attempt that triggered a shootout resulting in three deaths. Sean Lorenzo Cotton, Chrisopher James Howard, Edward Curry Johnson, James Myers, Carlos Bernard Wolfe and Carlos Omar Smith were arrested and charged with murder. Smith pleaded guilty to Hendricks' murder and was sentenced to serve 20 years in prison. After his release, Smith was charged with the 2012 murder of Reginald Leon Harper. In that case he was acquitted at trial. (report)
  66. July 2: James Garrett, 19, was killed in the shootout. Smith was initially charged, but the charges were dropped in return for his plea to Hendricks' death.
  67. July 2: Alejandro Clinton-Anderson, 19, was killed in the shootout. Smith was initially charged, but the charges were dropped in return for his plea to Hendricks' death.
  68. July 7: Elgin Arms, 22, was shot to death on the 900 block of 12th Street North in Fountain Heights as a result of an ongoing feud. Roger McCoy was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  69. July 13: McArthur Rawls, 59, was shot to death in front of his house on the 1500 block of Druid Hill Drive in Druid Hills after exchanging fire with a man who had shot at his son. Curtis Reese was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  70. July 17: Ronnie Toles, 29, was shot to death on the 3000 block of 23rd Street North in North Birmingham. Lorenzo Walker was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  71. July 19: Ronald C. Robinson, 20, was shot to death during an argument on the 4600 block of 9th Terrace North in Kingston. Eric Davis was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  72. July 20: Ben Williams, 49, was shot to death during an argument with a teenage male in his apartment. No criminal charges were filed. (report)
  73. July 25: Carrie Ann Barnes, 10, was killed by a shotgun blast fired in an argument between two others in an apartment in Graymont. No criminal charges were filed. (report)
  74. July 27: Anthony Bracken, 15, was killed in an alleged gang-related dispute. Three juveniles were arrested. (report)
  1. October 27: Sharma Ruth Johnson, 22, was shot to death at Zion Memorial Gardens in Zion City following a robbery and kidnapping which began at First Alabama Bank on Parkway East. Willie B. Smith III, Lorenzo Smith, and Angelica Willis were arrested and charged with capital murder. Willis pleaded guilty to felony murder and was sentenced to 25 years in prison. She testified against the Smith brothers. The younger brother was a minor at the time. Willie Smith, the shooter, admitted to shooting Johnson in a wire recording which was played for jurors. He was convicted and sentenced to death. His execution had been scheduled for February 11, 2021, but has been stayed by the 11th United States Circuit Court of Appeals. (report)
  2. December 24: A homeless male was beaten to death and another chased off a bridge where he was injured and left unconscious. Four members of a skinhead group were convicted of murder and sentenced to between 25 years and life in prison. [1]
