- 2016: Hayley Barber was crowned Miss Alabama.
- 2010: Southern disComfort IV scooter rally began at Magic City Motor Scooters.
- 2007: The Inverness Country Club clubhouse was destroyed by fire.
- 1982: A bomb exploded at the entrance to the New Spot Lounge gentlemen's club. No one was injured.
- 1963: Governor George Wallace made his "stand in the schoolhouse door" at the University of Alabama. Vivian Malone and James Hood registered later that day.
- 1953: Howard College broke ground on its new campus in Shades Valley.
- 1952: The Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals threw out Bull Connor's convictions on charges of disorderly conduct, joint occupancy of a hotel room with a member of the opposite sex, and extramarital sexual intercourse.
