- 1973: The downtown section of Morris Avenue between 21st and 24th Streets became the first site in Birmingham added to the National Register of Historic Places.
- 1969: Jefferson, Blount, St Clair, Walker, and Shelby Counties joined the Regional Planning Commission.
- 1954: Radio announcer Joe Rumore opened Rumore's Record Rack on 2nd Avenue North.
