This is a List of Birmingham homicides in 2020. It includes homicide cases occurring within the city limits during the calendar year. Note that a "homicide" refers to the cause of death as determined by a medical examiner, not to the commission of the crime of murder as charged by police and prosecutors.

73 homicides have been reported in the city as of August 5, putting the city on pace for 123 for the year. Based on the 2019 census estimate of 209,400 population, that represents a homicide rate of 58.7 homicides per 100,000 residents. Birmingham had 110 homicides in 2019. The recent record low of 62 homicides was set in 2014, and the recent record high was 141 in 1992. At this point last year, 78 homicides had been reported.

The city has averaged 10.2 homicides per month, or one every 3.0 days. There were 10 incidents in January, 6 in February, 10 in March, 13 in April, 9 in May, 8 in June, 13 in July, and 4 so far in August. The longest stretch without a homicide was the 13-day span between March 13 and 26. 16 deaths were reported on Sundays, 8 on Mondays, 14 on Tuesdays, 6 on Wednesdays, 11 on Thursdays, 12 on Fridays, and 6 on Saturdays.

8 of the reported homicides were ruled justifiable as self-defense by investigators or prosecutors and 1 resulted from reckless driving. Another homicide, believed to have been carried out in 2018, was discovered during 2020. The police department therefore acknowledges 62 chargeable homicides for the year, 3 of which were charged as manslaughter. Suspects have been identified in 39 cases, arrested in 34 and charged in 31.

63 deaths so far have resulted from shootings, 3 from stabbing, 1 from a hit-and-run, 1 from reckless driving, one from asphyxiation, one from child abuse and 3 from unannounced causes. 18 incidents occurred at private homes, 8 at apartment complexes, 1 at a private club, 7 at businesses, 1 at a homeless shelter, and 34 on the streets. 30 were reported in the West Precinct, 26 in the East Precinct, 6 in the South Precinct and 11 in the North Precinct.

At least 8 deaths resulted from planned ambushes, including 2 incidents of people killed by stray bullets. 6 homicides took place during robberies, 6 were described as domestic incidents, one was child abuse, one was caused by reckless driving during a police chase, and 22 occurred following sudden disputes, including another death by stray bullet. The motive is unknown in 31 other deaths.

65 victims were male and 8 were female.
