- 2015: Following a federal court ruling, probate courts in Alabama approved the state's first marriage licenses for same-sex couples. Olanda Smith and Dianah McCaryer exchanged vows before Judge Mike Graffeo at the Jefferson County Courthouse.
- 2015: A MAX bus on Route 45 veered off of Martin Luther King Drive into a ravine, causing injuries to several passengers.
- 2008: The Red Mountain Market celebrated its grand opening.
- 1993: Lucy Bonds began selling espresso from a cart on 20th Street South. The business eventually became Lucy's Coffee and Tea.
